Connections Lost | Modern Family

Katelyn and I have been binge watching Modern Family the last several weeks. I never got past the first 2 or 3 seasons with Maureen after it launched in 2009. It is absolutely hysterical because it gets so much right from the perspective of the parents and the kids.

This particular episode from late Season 6 titled, Connection Lost, was good at several levels. First, it was shot entirely from the perspective of computer screens, phones and FaceTime, with the occasional zoom out to the actual setting. It also showed the interaction of Google searches, Claire logging in to Haley’s iCloud account (using a way too easy, but funny, password), location tracking, Google Street View, and an ever escalating story line and set of assumptions, all wrong, about the actual situation.

Worth a watch. I left realizing all the ways in which technology, once unheard of, is now part of daily life. And realizing why there are so many divisive arguments on social media. We’re all making assumptions. And losing our connections…. good old fashioned conversation still works… and I’m not being a Luddite!! 🤣🤣
